Course Title
Working with Immigrant and Refugee Youth in NYC
Department(s)
Description
This course covers a broad introduction to history, research, and social patterns in immigrant and refugee youth communities, and provides resources and examples of innovative programs designed for immigrant and refugee youth. In recognition that there’s no one immigrant and/or refugee youth experience or correct method for working with these populations, the course syllabus includes academic and institutional publications, news articles, interviews, resources from community-based organizations, pop culture, and immigrant & refugee youth-created media. The purpose of this syllabus content and assignments is to capture and share experiences and best practices. As we learn in some of the readings, oftentimes these experiences and best practices are not recognized as “rigorous” enough or do not meet standards for traditional institutional publication.
